Join colleagues in Higher Education, Teacher Candidates, In-Service Teachers, and Administrators for HELP Summer Book Clubs around Minnesota that will meet once or twice online or in person, depending on the preference of your group. The first 50 people to register will receive Dr. Lori Helman's e-book FREE—Learning in a New Language: A School-wide Approach to Support K-8 Emergent Bilinguals.
A growing number of students today are emergent bilinguals—bringing to school a home language other than English. School leaders need to be prepared with essential knowledge to ensure that all students are able to be successful in an English-speaking environment.
Dr. Helman addresses the role of language in academic learning and what makes learning in a new language unique. She provides practical tips based on evidence-based strategies for literacy and content-area classrooms. And she stresses the importance of engaging families and communities in their children’s success. This effort by teachers and administrators is crucial for promoting EQUITY of student opportunity and achievement.
Book Clubs are forming now—a great opportunity for learning and networking!
